The Kids are all right

Starring Annette Benning, Julianne Moore, Mark Ruffalo, and Mia Wasikowska

Directed by Lisa Cholodenko

Release Date: July 30th, 2010

Jules (Moore) and Nic (Bening) are your typical couple turned parents: their kids are complex, moody, and curious who their biological father is. Soon, daughter Joni (Wasikowska) has tracked down sperm donor Paul (Ruffalo) and wants to get to know him before she takes of for college. Life may never be the same for the Allgood family.......

Director/Co-writer Lisa Cholodenko crafted a slice-of-life dramedy about a family who has to deal with the unforseen and the struggles of marriage and family. Bening and Moore have fantastic chemistry together, and make a believable couple that seem to truly care for each other. The best thing I can say about the film is how much I appreciated the realism of the famlly's life: they argue, they get hurt, they make bad decisions. The emotional beats of the story felt honest and I really understood and felt the struggle of this family. The only criticism I can give is that the film does struggle due to lagging pace from time to time. But if you can past that, the film is an emotionally connecting story.
