I'm a big Bill Murray fan, with "Groundhog Day" being one of his best films. The film definitely has fun with the concept of the time loop, the experience of re-living the same day. For example, Phil casually clocks the day-by-day conversations of two people so well that he can walk past the two of them and rob an armored car. Murray is most certainly having fun with the role, playing up the zany behavior of his circumstances.
