Ok, I admit that this film is combination of Halloween, Friday the 13th and Canada...but I don't care because this is a great underrated 1980s horror film. Now, before you go running off to Netflix to rent the 2009 remake (in 3-D!), give the original a first glance and you'll be glad you did. The town of Valentine Bluffs has a sad history with St.Valentine's Day: 20 years ago a group of miners were caught in a cave-in while their supervisors left early to go to the town Valentine's Dance. The lone survivor went insane, killed his supervisors and dedicated his life to making sure the town never celebrated Valentine's Day ever again. Present Day, the teens of Valentine Bluffs don't believe the local legend and want to celebrate even with the rise of the deadly miner back in town. This film scores major points in my book by making the connection to valentine's day effective and creepy, instead of just a stupid gimmick where the killer could have dressed up like a cherub (....like in Valentine). Also, the death scenes are effective, chilling, and innovative, which is the opposite of the reviews i 've heard from the 2009 remake. If you're in the mood for a horror film after seeing "The Thing" or "Night of the Living Dead" for the 100th time, check up on this "bloody" chilling flick.
