Not as fast paced as your average "James Bond" spy thriller. However, I believe that, while not for everyone, The American is a faut, suffocating thriller where the audience truly understands the paranoia and loneliness of assassin, silmilar to Luc Besson's 'Leon: The Professional". The movie is a tad slow, but does work in the end to get the audience to understand the unease of Jack (Clooney).
